Use Common Sense When Choosing a Breeder

Selective breeding is very important to us, which is why we take the time (and go to the expense) of finding the right male and the right female to produce the best possible offspring to better the German Shepherd breed.
At Von Hornberger Shepherds all of our dogs are screened for hip, elbow, spine, heart and temperament, and we know the bloodlines of each of our dogs. This is by no means a guarantee that a problem couldn't develop later on (it does occasionally happen), but our selective breeding definitely increases the odds of your puppy being  healthy and sound. We're there for you for the lifetime of our babies when they go out into their new homes.
The sad truth is many people breed dogs as a means of a quick profit with little regard to the lineage, structure or soundness of the puppies they produce. Don't be fooled into buying a puppy just because it's cute (or cheap), or because it has "papers".
AKC registration papers really have little to do with the structure, health and temperament of a dog. Those are the traits that are dependant on good breeding, and that's where our knowledge and experience sets us apart.

          Help Break The Cycle!

Please don't buy puppies from pet stores, dog brokers, import brokers, or puppy mills, and help us put an end to the suffering of these little victims of greed.
